Exterior features

All aluminum wave panel constructionAll-aluminum construction: Featherlite customers have confidence in knowing their horse trailers are made with an all aluminum frame and skin. Featherlite trailers traditionally hold their value longer, and owners report that an aluminum trailer offers a higher payload capacity. Aluminum trailers have superior resistance to rust and corrosion with simple routine maintenance, and since a Featherlite trailer is lighter than comparable steel trailers, customers report benefiting from fuel savings and a smoother tow. Durable all-aluminum construction gives you many more miles of hauling than steel horse trailers offer.

‘Wave’ side panels: The sleek ‘Wave’ side panels on a Featherlite horse trailer gives the trailer a dynamic appearance. The undulating design of the side panels is standard on Featherlite horse trailers with aluminum side panels.

LED wraparound lights: Most Featherlite trailers are outfitted with state of the art LED wraparound lights that give trailers more visibility when traveling at night. LED lights also use less energy and last longer than conventional lighting.

“Light Flo” feed doors: A Featherlite horse trailer’s “Light Flo” drop-down feed doors allow up to 90 percent more airflow and light into the horse area. This helps horses stay calmer and more relaxed while traveling and during loading. Now enhanced for 2015 and newer models, Featherlite’s drop down feed doors now feature a heavier duty frame, drop down bars and hinges for added strength. Their lower handle also makes them more convenient to use. The window also lays more flat against the trailer in the down position during hauling.

Wiring harness: With Featherlite horse trailers, all wires are bundled in a protective jacket, known as the Featherlite wiring harness. This wiring harness provides a watertight seal, protects against wear and tear and makes connecting wires to your vehicle easy. Without the harness, the individual wires would hang loose and unprotected. Note: Model 9401 doesn’t include the wiring harness but uses a protective jacket to the trailer body.

Pierce and roll roof systemPierce and roll: The pierce and roll system, usually associated with manufacturing airplanes, is also used in the construction of each Featherlite horse trailer’s roof. The pierce and roll system drives high strength rivets into the aluminum trailer, but no hole fully pierces the roof’s skin. Instead a secure, water-resistant crown forms up and around the bottom of every rivet, reducing opportunities for water leakage. Standard riveting used by other manufacturers can create hundreds of holes in the roof of a horse trailer where water can infiltrate if rivets or openings become worn.

Aerodynamics: Bumper pull Featherlite trailers feature aerodynamic v-noses. These make the horse trailer reduce wind drag, easier to pull and better looking. Featherlite gooseneck trailers also come standard with tapered noses.

Aluminum One-Piece Running Boards: The running boards on Featherlite horse trailers feature a full-length, one-piece design. These running boards have a consistently wide platform over the length of the trailer. They are durable and hold up to repeated use in the toughest of conditions. Running boards are standard on select widths of horse trailers.

Tie rings: Featherlite’s new exterior tie rings are brighter and shinier, giving your trailer a sharper, more polished exterior.

Safety: All Featherlite trailers meet federal safety standards.

Dexter Axle logoAxles: Starting with 2013 models, Featherlites come with E-Z Lube axles and forward adjusting brakes as standard features on models with axles of 2.2K through 8K. The E-Z Lube axles make bearing lubrication quick and easy with an E-Z Lube cap that allows for easy access, extra protection and virtually no mess. Forward adjusting brakes adjust to proper clearances during travel allowing you to stop with confidence. It also eliminates the need for manual brake adjustments, saving you time and money.

INTERIOR features and benefits of a Featherlite horse trailer!

three quarter inch floor mats¾-inch rubber floor mats: Padded floors are extremely important in a horse trailer. Without proper floor cushioning, a horse will absorb impact from shocks while on the road, which increases stress and potential injury of the horse. On most Featherlite horse trailers, the floors are covered with 3/4 inch thick rubber mats, allowing a horse the greatest amount of comfort without compromising its stability. The thickness of the mats also makes them less prone to curling and rolling up, eliminating a potential tripping hazard on the floor of the horse trailer.

Slam latch dividers: If a divider is not properly secured, it can swing about while traveling. This can injure a horse or worse, upset it. Fortunately, Featherlite’s patented spring-loaded slam latch dividers offer a quick and secure lock, with no need for hands near the fastening point. Featherlite’s horse stall dividers also lock into a catch recessed in the wall, eliminating protruding parts that could injure a horse.

Rubber tie rings: The quieter the horse trailer, the calmer the horse. Featherlite horse trailers’ rubber coated tie rings dampen trailer noise significantly.

Horse trailer turfEnhanced turf: Featherlite has introduced an enhanced turf for the dressing room of its horse trailers. The turf, available on the floors and gooseneck area, is thicker, more durable and looks great! And it’s more resistant to water and other elements!

Adjustable saddle racks: Securing tack and equipment properly is easier with a Featherlite trailer’s adjustable saddle racks.

Roof vents: Your horse trailer must give your horses adequate ventilation. On Featherlite horse trailers, the vents are located down the trailer’s center. This design allows air to be efficiently drawn into the horse trailer and circulated throughout.

Heavy duty spring loaded stall dividers with slam latchHorse dividers: Starting with 2013 models, a new heavy duty spring is standard on horse trailers with slant dividers to make using the dividers easier and to strengthen the hold backs. Nylon bushings are also added to all horse dividers causing less vibration and metal on metal contact, which will be quieter and calmer for horses riding in Featherlite horse trailers.
